Policy on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools & Manuscript Submissions Introduced

2023-02-28

From today, Exchanges is introducing a new policy relating to artificial intelligence (AI) tools and manuscripts submitted for the journal’s consideration. This policy has been developed by the Editorial Board in line with best practice guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). It aims to ensure originality, transparency and ingenuity continue to be respected within the journal’s pages.

The full details of the policy may be read here. However, in brief:

  • AI tools cannot be cited as authors within Exchanges’ papers.
  • Use of AI tools in creating ANY manuscript elements must be transparent, attributed & evidenced.
  • Author(s) are solely responsible for their manuscript’s contents in terms of ethics, liability or professional conduct.

Manuscripts, which in the judgment of the Editorial Board fail to meet the policy's requirements, will be removed from consideration. Exchanges reserves the right to update or review this policy, in the light of new developments in the field.

Authors wishing to explore how this policy may affect their current manuscripts or future submissions, are advised to contact the EIC directly.
